We Ran It

Congratulations to all who participated in the Young AFCEAN 2020 5k Run for STEM. A special thanks to contestants and all our great sponsors. We raised $10,000; more funds than ever. Proceeds will be donated to local Massachusetts classrooms to support STEM projects and activities.  Learn more about our sponsors and results under the Young AFCEA section of the website.

We Built It

New look for 2020!  Welcome to our new website where we hope to introduce members, sponsors, and stakeholders to great happenings, updates, and information about Chapter events. Let us know what you think. We also welcome your contributions on items of interest or news you may want to share.

We Launched It

We launched our first ever, webinar New Horizons Speaker Series and Diversity Series this month leading up to our Capstone New Horizons events in March.  On October 7th, Mr. Colt Whittall kicked us off with a discussion about fixing UX (User Experience) in the US Air Force. Next up, on 21 October,  Mr. Mark Crouter of MITRE and Ms. Marissa McCoy, also MITRE, and our VP of Diversity, teamed to provide a workshop on developing a  personal guide to showcase your individuality.

Greg's Wingteam Raises $13K For ALS Research

This month's featured chapter member is Greg Doran.  Greg is a 1979 Air Force Academy graduate whose first assignment was at Hanscom AFB. After completing 7 years of active duty service at Offut AFB HQ Strategic Air Command, in 1986, Greg returned to Hanscom as a support contractor. He has worked for a handful of advisory & assistance support contractors in that time, but has served continuously in this capacity for the last 34 years.  He has performed financial analysis for several critical command & control programs in that time, many of which are in the field now.

For the past twelve years, he has been providing expert financial analysis assistance to the Minimum Essential Emergency Communications Network (MEECN) Program Office and their critical emergency action message systems; most recently working for Oasis Systems. For more than 25 years, he has been integral to the success of this chapter’s annual Fall and Spring Golf Tournaments serving on every planning committee.

He helped to raise thousands of dollars for STEM scholarships. He has been a selfless volunteer in the greater Bedford-Lexington area, serving not only this chapter but the local community delivering meals on wheels for more than thirty years, and helping to run the local youth football leagues for many years as treasurer. In October, the chapter contributed to Greg’s Wingteam in the “2020 North Shore Walk to Defeat ALS.”  With the help of his devoted wife, Michele, and as testament to his dauntless courage and the highest regard with which he is held by all, Greg’s Wingteam came in first place in Eastern Massachusetts raising over $13,000 to defeat ALS. We are honored to have Greg as a most valued member of this chapter.  He retired in August of this year but had continued to work full time for more than 3 full years after being diagnosed with ALS.
